Solutions to common issues
Certificates Not Being Sent
Check if form is configured as a quiz
Solution:
- Open your form in edit mode
- Click Settings (gear icon) → Quizzes tab
- Ensure "Make this a quiz" is toggled ON
- Assign point values to all questions
Verify email collection is enabled
Solution:
- Open your form settings
- Go to General tab
- Enable "Collect email addresses"
- Submit a new test response
Check passing score threshold
Certificates are only sent to participants who meet or exceed the passing score.
Solution:
- Verify your passing score setting in CertifyForms
- Ensure test responses score above the threshold
- Check the score calculation in your form
Merge Tags Not Replacing
Verify tag syntax is correct
Common mistakes:
❌ {Name} (single braces)
❌ {{name}} (wrong case - lowercase works too, but be consistent)
❌ {{ Name }} (extra spaces)
✅ {{Name}} (recommended)
✅ {{name}} (also works)
Tags must be in text boxes, not images
Merge tags only work in Google Slides text boxes.
Solution:
- Ensure tags are in actual text boxes, not images
- Don't place tags inside shapes without text
- Use Insert → Text Box to add new text areas
Template Issues
Template not loading or showing error
Solution:
- Verify template URL is correct
- Ensure template is set to "Anyone with the link can view"
- Check that only the first slide is used
- Try copying the template to create a fresh version
Certificate formatting looks wrong
Check these common issues:
- Text boxes may be too small for longer names
- Font sizes might need adjustment
- Ensure adequate margins around content
- Test with various name lengths
Permission & Access Issues
CertifyForms requesting permissions
CertifyForms needs these permissions to function:
- Access to your Google Forms (to read responses)
- Access to Google Slides (to generate certificates)
- Access to Google Drive (to store certificates)
- Send emails on your behalf (to deliver certificates)
All permissions are necessary for the add-on to work properly.
Subscription or quota issues
If you're seeing quota warnings:
- Check your current plan in the CertifyForms sidebar
- View remaining certificate quota
- Upgrade to a higher tier if needed
- Contact support if you believe there's an error
